You shouldn’t be hopeful about the impending GTA related announcements.
Earlier this week an old GTA Vice City domain appeared on Reddit. Gtavicecityonline.com, which is owned by publisher Take-Two, was updated in March.
Although the domain has been registered since 2009 – more than a year after the release of GTA 4 – some have suggested that it is linked to Rockstar’s upcoming GTA under development. The nutcase theory has it that Rockstar is looking to pull a Capcom and title the upcoming GTA VIce City game, with the VI here representing 6.
Of course, none of this has any basis in reality. The most likely explanation for the domain’s existence, given upon registration, is that Take-Two might have simply wanted to secure ownership when needed. Publishers do this all the time to secure domain rights for potential game names, extensions, and the like, even without a game actually existing.
While this practice can be expensive, it is far more preferable than having to haggle with estate squatters who are likely to charge exorbitant prices to part with an estate.
GTA 6, or whatever Rockstar will eventually call the next entry in the series, is due sometime in 2023, judging by Take-Two’s marketing budget.
